Ioannis Hatzaras grew up in Thessaloniki, Greece, and he graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He came to the United States in 2002, and completed surgical training at Yale University, Ohio State University and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a board certified Surgical Oncologist with extensive experience in treatment of patients with cancer of the GI system (stomach, colon, pancreas, liver). He also has expertise in melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma. He is an assistant professor of Surgery at New York University, with his research focusing in disparities of care, patient / physician communication, and predictors of outcomes in patients with GI cancer. He has co-authored more than 40 publications and has lectured extensively around the world.
